How should I handle the altitude in Huaraz?

Don’t rush it! Huaraz sits at 3,050m (10,000 ft), and most treks go much higher. We recommend arriving at least 2 days before any big trek to acclimatize. Our team monitors your oxygen levels daily, and we always have medical oxygen on hand just in case. Drink tons of water, try the local coca tea, and let our guides set a steady, “poko-poko” (slow and steady) pace for you.

Only if you want to! We provide high-quality group gear (tents, stoves, etc.). For personal stuff like down jackets, sleeping bags (-15°C rated), or crampons for high-altitude climbs, we have a premium rental shop in Huaraz. We’ll send you a detailed packing list so you know exactly what’s worth carrying in your suitcase and what’s easier to grab from us.

You’ll be shocked at what our mountain chefs can whip up at 4,000m! Expect hot, 3-course meals featuring local Andean ingredients—think quinoa soups, fresh trout, and lomo saltado. We’re also pros at handling dietary needs (vegan, GF, or allergies); just give us a heads-up when booking. You won’t just be fueled; you’ll be pampered.

The Andes are wild, and cell service is spotty at best. That’s why our lead guides carry Garmin InReach satellite messengers on every multi-day expedition. We have a 24/7 emergency protocol back in Huaraz, so even in the deepest valleys of the Cordillera Blanca, we’re never truly “off the grid” when it comes to your safety.

We get it—everyone wants to know! For our organized campsites, we set up private “toilet tents” with biodegradable waste management to keep the impact low and your privacy high. On day hikes, it’s all about the “leave no trace” philosophy. We’ll provide the kits and the guidance to make sure we keep these pristine mountains beautiful.

You don’t need to be an Olympic athlete, but you should be comfortable hiking 6-8 hours a day with significant elevation gain. If you’re doing a Level 3 expedition (like Huayhuash or a 6,000m peak), cardio and leg strength are key. If you’re unsure, just ask us—we’ll help you pick a route that challenges you without ruining the fun.

Finding the right Andean path can be tough.
Let’s figure it out together.
